DAVIDSON, N.C. – Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Mike Babst, the Davidson men's soccer team will kick-off their 2022 campaign Thursday with a 7 p.m. contest at nearby High Point.
This marks the second straight season the Wildcats and Panthers will meet in both team's season opener.
Davidson, which knocked off then-No. 24 High Point, 3-1, a year ago, returns eight starters from the 2021 squad that finished 9-7-2 overall and 3-3-2 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
Among those back, include forward Vincent Bennage, who led the 'Cats with seven goals as a freshman earning a spot on the conference's all-rookie team.
The Wildcats also return senior goalkeeper Giacomo Piccardo and a trio of starting defenders, including junior Nico Cavallo, who was selected preseason all-conference last week. As a sophomore, Cavallo set up a team-best five goals.
High Point, the defending Big South regular season champions, was predicted to finish second in the league. The Panthers are led by Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year Holden Trent.

Davidson will travel to East Tennessee State Sunday for a 4 p.m. start before opening its home slate Thursday, Sept. 1 against Campbell at 4:30 p.m.
