WILMINGTON, Del. – Despite 18 points from freshman Issy Morgan and rallying from 14 down to force overtime, upset-minded Davidson dropped a heartbreaker to Dayton, 60-55, Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2022 A-10 Women's Basketball Championship.
The Wildcats fall to 16-14 overall, while the top-seeded Flyers advance to Saturday's semifinals where they await the winner of George Washington / VCU.
Morgan, who was named to the league's all-rookie team earlier in the week, finished 7-of-14 from the floor, including a pair of 3-pointers to go with six boards and five assists. She was joined in double figures by Elle Sutphin's 14 points.
With the Wildcats trailing 40-29 entering the fourth, Morgan sparked the comeback with a layup and trey in consecutive possessions to get the team within six, 40-34.
Davidson continued to slowly chip away at the deficit and eventually forced overtime with a Morgan to Sutphin run out with 42 seconds left in regulation.
Deadlocked at 53-53 three minutes into the extra session, the Flyers went in front for good with a 3-pointer and pair of free throws from Makira Cook, who led her club with 14 points.
Tenin Magassa and Kyla Whitehead added 10 points each for Dayton.
The Flyers got to the charity stripe 23 times, making 18, while the Wildcats made all six of their attempts.
Davidson jumped out to a 6-0 advantage and led 13-10 after the first quarter thanks to a Sarah Konstans triple with four ticks remaining.
After going up 17-10 early in the second, the Wildcats went scoreless the final 8:47 of the period, allowing the Flyers to close on a 12-0 run to go into the half up 22-17.
Davidson, which connected on just 1-of-17 from the floor in the second, finished the contest at 32.4 percent.
Dayton continued its streak into the second half, scoring seven unanswered to start the third quarter and pushed the margin to 37-23 with 2:35 left in the stanza.
