'Cats Edge out Wingate, 4-3

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson men's tennis team picked up its second win of the season on Saturday afternoon, edging out the Wingate Bulldogs in a 4-3 decision from inside the Knobloch Tennis Center.
The Wildcats started off the day strong, taking the doubles point thanks to victories from Alejandro Solares & Udday Singh on court one (6-3) and Juan Camilo Perez Gongora & Sam Kavarana at No. 3 (6-3).
"We knew this would be a close match today," said Head Coach Drew Barrett. "We fought our way through doubles, which ended up being the decider."
On the singles side, Davidson split the matches 3-3 with Wingate.Â
"Our seniors stepped up big to clinch the match for us and Alejandro kept up his consistent play to give us the edge we needed," Barrett added.
Solares improved to 3-1 in singles play this season, as the Guatemala native earned a two-set, 6-3, 7-6 (10-0) decision from court two. Seniors Kavarana and Brooks Green solidified the Saturday victory by earning 6-3, 6-3 and 6-4, 7-5 wins from courts five and six, respectively.Â
With today's win, Davidson improves to 2-2 on the season and will return to the courts tomorrow afternoon at home to take on Presbyterian.
