'Cats Earn 12th Win, Shutout in 1-0 Win at La Salle

PHILADELPHIA — Sophia Caruso's first-half goal and a program-best 12th shutout highlighted the Davidson women's soccer team's 1-0 victory at La Salle Sunday.
With their first win over the Explorers, the Wildcats closed the regular season 12-2-4 and 5-2-3 in the Atlantic 10, totaling the most overall wins in a season since 2009 and the most A-10 wins ever.
They also locked up fourth place in the A-10 standings and are in position to host a first-round A-10 Tournament game next week.
"La Salle put us under a lot of pressure," said coach Adam Denton. "We competed, we stood strong, everyone competed for first and second balls. When we were put under pressure, players stepped up."
Caruso struck with a long shot at the 12-minute mark of the first half, with her third goal of the season giving the Wildcats all the offense they required.
The Davidson defense did its job against an Explorers team that had 7-1 advantages in shots-on-goal and corner kicks. Keeper Mary Grace Bunch answered the call in-goal with seven saves.
