DAVIDSON — Fordham built a double-digit lead in the first quarter and forced the Davidson Wildcats to play catch-up all night in a 63-51 Atlantic 10 women's basketball contest on Friday night in Belk Arena.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 11-5 overall and 2-2 in the A-10, while Fordham moves to 13-4 and 4-1.
Elle Sutphin and Suzi-Rose Deegan each scored 11 to lead the Wildcats, while Chloe Welch added 10 points.
After trailing by as many as 12 points in the first half, the Wildcats cut it to seven by the intermission and were within two points of the Rams twice in the second 20 minutes.
Adelaide Fuller's bucket at the 7:30 mark of the third quarter capped a 10-0 run and pulled the Wildcats close at 31-29, and a Sutphin jumper with 4:05 left in the third cut it to 37-35. But each time, the Rams had an answer, most significantly following Sutphin's basket with a 15-4 run that carried into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, Deegan scored eight straight points to help the Wildcats get within six at the three-minute mark, but the Rams went on an 8-0 run to close the door.
Fordham finished with a 50-29 rebounding advantage, including 23-12 in the first half.
