DAVIDSON, N.C. – A trip to the Bay Area and first-ever appearance in the Myrtle Beach Classic highlight Davidson's 2021-22 non-conference men's basketball slate, as announced by head coach Bob McKillop Wednesday.
"We welcome a challenging schedule which will prepare us for the rigors of the A-10, which could be at its strongest since we joined the conference in 2014," commented McKillop.
Following a Nov. 3 exhibition versus Ferrum, the Wildcats, who went 13-9 a year ago in a season significantly altered by the COVID-19 pandemic, will tip this year's campaign on Nov. 9 against Delaware, which will also mark the return of fans to Belk Arena.
Four days later, Davidson will travel west to take on first-time opponent San Francisco.
"Playing San Francisco in the Chase Center, the home of Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors, should be quite a special and memorable event," said McKillop.
For the sixth consecutive season, the Wildcats will take part in one of ESPN's multi-team events (MTE) as they'll battle New Mexico State in the opening round of the 2021 Myrtle Beach Invitational with a matchup against Penn or Utah State to follow.
The third annual event will be played Nov. 18, 19 and 21 at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C.
"The ESPN MTE has always been a sensational experience for our guys," McKillop said.
After four straight away from home, Davidson will play four of its six remaining non-conference tilts on McKillop Court beginning with Robert Morris Nov. 27.
The home portion will also include William & Mary (Dec. 4), Radford (Dec. 18) and 2021 Sweet 16 participant Loyola-Chicago (Dec. 22).
On Nov. 30 the 'Cats will head to Charlotte to take on their cross-county rival in the annual "Battle for the Hornets' Nest Trophy", while concluding the non-conference road schedule with a return to Northeastern on Dec. 12.
"November through December we will be challenged by talented and well-coached teams every time we step on the court," said McKillop.
