NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson swimmer Sarah Helen Shepherd is one of the Atlantic 10 Conference's 16 nominees for the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, the league announced Friday.
Now in its 31st year, the NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.
The 14-team league's Senior Woman Administrators will select two nominees to represent the Atlantic 10 as 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year finalists.
Shepherd graduated in May with a degree in biology and earned the 2021 Rebecca E. Stimson Award, which is presented annually to Davidson's top senior female scholar-athlete.
Shepherd is a program record-holder in three events, including the 200 individual medley (1:58.99), the 400 IM (4:14.81) and the 200 backstroke (1:58.26). She also swam on school-record relays in the 200 medley (1:40.81) and 800 freestyle (7:16.47).
The Chapel Hill, N.C., native won Atlantic 10 titles in the 200 and 400 IMs in 2020, while setting the school marks. She secured three medals at the 2021 A-10 Championships, including gold with the 800 free relay unit.
