CHARLOTTE – The women's track and field team head into championship season following a strong showing at the Charlotte Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Charlotte Invitational.
On Friday night, senior Eleni Daughters took the win in the 800-meter run, stopping the clock at 2:13.18. Classmate Grace Loehr was fourth in 2:14.37, with Kelsey Troutman (2:17.25), Sophia Ackerman (2:18.23) and Liz Simms (2:18.25) coming in 7-8-9 overall. Sophomore Maliyah Paynter was not far behind in a new personal best time of 2:19.42.
Sophomore Hannah Kanjian set a new personal best in the 100-meter hurdles, stopping the clock at 14.82 seconds. Junior Anna Davis was next to lean across the line in eighth at 14.87.
Sophomore Nella Tsudis was the first of three 'Cats in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line at 26.01 seconds, a new personal best. She competed in Saturday's 400-meter run, stopping the clock at 1:01.18.
Davidson second-year runner Breila Fuller was fifth in the 1500-meter run, stopping the clock at 4:38.04, just outside the top-10 performers list. Juniors Rachel Shapiro (4:47.45) and Beatrice Levy (4:50.07) placed 11th and 13th, respectively, with new PR's.
During Saturday's events, junior Meghan Corso moved into the top-10 performers in the 100-meter dash, leaning across the line in 12.88 seconds.
Multis athlete, junior Hazel Tankard, improved on her shot put before next weeks championship heptathlon, marking a throw of 10.42-meters (34'2.25).
Sophomore's Cheyanne Morris took fourth in the 800-meters, while teammate Lilian Korir was seventh.
The Wildcats open up at the A-10 Outdoor Championship Saturday, May 1 at George Mason. No fans will be permitted access to the championship.
