
Six Records Fall in Day One of the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Champs

FAIRFAX, Va. – Women's track and field registered six new school records in the opening day of the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship Saturday at George Mason Stadium.
Hannah Kanjian got things off to a fast start for the Wildcats, breaking the program's 100-meter hurdle record in the opening event of the heptathlon. Kanjian leaned across the line at 14.61 seconds, breaking Jamilah Sawyer's 22-year-old record set at the 1999 Southern Conference Championship. Kanjian sits in third after four events with 2931 points with Hazel Tankard in seventh with 2565.
Junior Bianca Nolde-Lopez became the first-ever Wildcat to break 55 seconds in the 400-meters. The Littleton, Colo., native flew around the track, easily winning her heat and breaking her own program record with a time of 54.81 seconds. Sophomore Rachel Horowitz also qualified for the finals with a new personal best run of 56.47 seconds.
Sophomore Kate Carnevale took down a pair of sprint records in prelims. She opened her busy weekend with a new record in the 100-meter dash, blazing down the straightaway in 12.06 seconds. Carnevale backed up her speed by resetting the standard in the 200-meter dash, stopping the clock at 24.60 seconds. Both times qualified her for the finals.
Junior Anna Davis broke the 400-meter hurdle record for the fifth time this season in as many tries. She lowered her own mark to 1:00.86, winning her section to advance to the finals. Freshman teammate Chloe Davis will line up with her after a new personal best run of 1:01.53.
Sophomore Megan Burkholder earned the team's first medal of the day after a school record performance in the pole vault. Burkholder cleared 3.71-meters to place third.
Senior Caroline Willis goes out on top of the record books for Davidson in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Willis scored for the Wildcats, stopping the clock at 11:09.00 to take seventh in the field.
Classmate Eleni Daughters used Kayla O'Connell of Richmond to produce the third fastest preliminary time of the day, taking second in her section with a time of 2:11.10 to easily advance in a deep field of A-10 half milers.
