Davidson Drops Heartbreaker to App State, 4-3

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- As the result came down to the final match for the second straight day, the Davidson Wildcats ultimately fell on the losing end of a 4-3 decision to Appalachian State on Sunday.
Prior to Sunday's match, the 'Cats celebrated its two graduating seniors, Alyssa Hahn and Nicole Krykanov, who have been four year members of the Davidson tennis program.
"The team played tough today and fought well for the seniors," said head coach Susanne Depka. "We had a great day celebrating them and appreciate what they have done for Davidson tennis throughout their careers."
Davidson dropped the doubles point early, although Mira Gladstone and Victoria Anyanwu won by a 6-3 score from court three.
On the singles side, Elizabeth Truluck, Ava Ignatowich and Charlotte James all picked up victories, as the rookie Ignatowich has now won her last two matchups from court four. Ignatowich swept App State's Poggi in two sets, picking up a 6-3 win in the first and a 7-6 result in the second after a tiebreaker series.
Truluck pushed through a three-set battle, after dropping the first, and won 6-3, 7-5 in the final two frames to win the match. James dominated on court six, as the freshman won in two 6-0 sets.
Davidson will have one final tuneup at Elon next weekend, before beginning the Atlantic 10 Championships at the end of April.
