DAVIDSON, N.C. --
The Davidson Wildcats battled the top-seeded Dayton Flyers for 40 minutes this afternoon, exchanging the lead six different times, before the eventual Atlantic 10 Regular Season Champs outlasted the 'Cats to win it, 72-66.

Davidson worked hard on all sides of the ball, shooting 47.3 percent on the day, forcing 16 Dayton turnovers and dishing 14 assists. The match up, which doubled as the Wildcats' senior day, marked the conclusion of regular season play for the A-10.

Senior Kelly Fitzgerald made the most of her last game inside Belk Arena, as the Apex native scored a career-high 17 points. The guard was 3-of-4 from deep and hit two during the third quarter alone, where the 'Cats erased an 11-point deficit to pull within one of the Flyers. Sophomore Adelaide Fuller matched her career-high in scoring this afternoon as well, as the Australian scored 19 points off 9-of-14 shooting. Katie Turner was Davidson's third 'Cat to reach double-figures in scoring, as the senior has now reached 10+ points in her last five outings.

Davidson jumped out fast offensively today, taking a 14-10 lead by the first media timeout. A Cameron Tabor jumper would push the Wildcats' lead to six, up 16-10, before an 8-2 run by the Flyers tied up the game at 18 points apiece. The 'Cats continued to streak in the second, as Cassidy Gould threaded the needle between two Flyers and found Fuller who sank the layup. Fuller's basket capped off an 11-2 run by the Wildcats, giving them a 31-24 lead for their largest advantage of the day. Just before heading into the break, Tabor hit a two-handed overhand throw from just inside the three-point arc, at the buzzer, to push the 'Cats to a 35-32 advantage.

Dayton came out of the break ready to surge, as the Flyers opened up the frame on an 18-4 run. The 'Cats weren't done yet however, down 50-39, Fitzgerald hit two treys and Davidson scored a pair of jumpers from Fuller to finish off the third quarter on a 10-2 run and pull within one of the Flyers, down 52-51.

The final 10 minutes of the match-up continued to be a battle, but Dayton ultimately outscored the Wildcats 20-15 in the final quarter and pulled off the 72-66 victory.

The Wildcats will have a week and a half off now to prepare for their run at the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament. Davidson's first draw will be on Wednesday, March 10 against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies at 1 p.m. in Richmond, Va.
