FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Davidson Wildcats scored 17 of the game's first 20 points tonight, setting the tone for a dominating 68-42 victory over the George Mason Patriots. With the win, the 'Cats had their first season sweep of an A-10 opponent, as the Wildcats improve to 5-8 in league play.
Cassidy Gould paved the way for Davidson, as the junior tallied the first double-double of her career and set a new career-high in rebounding with 17 points and 11 boards. Senior Katie Turner had a hot-shooting night, hitting 3-of-6 treys and matching a season-high of 14 points scored. Cameron Tabor rounded out Davidson's lethal offense tonight, as she was the third 'Cat to reach double-figures in scoring, notching 11 points.
On top of their arsenal of offense, the Wildcats' stellar defense held the Patriots to just 12 first half points, including a 17-3 run for the 'Cats to open up the first seven minutes of work. Despite a slow second quarter, where Davidson and George Mason combined for just 12 points, the 'Cats turned the jets back on and shot 43 percent from the field across the second half.
Davidson never looked back from the jump, as the 'Cats never trailed the Patriots and led by as many as 30, including Alana Davidson's last-second layup to close out the third quarter on a buzzer-beater. The Wildcats led George Mason in virtually every category tonight, including 20-12 from points in the paint, 19-1 on fastbreak points and 42-35 in rebounding. The Wildcats had one of their best ball control nights of the season as well, turning the ball over just nine times compared to Mason's 18 turnovers. The last time Davidson committed less than 10 turnovers was on Jan. 14 at Dayton.
Midyear addition Keeley Evans made her college basketball debut this evening, as the Australian saw three minutes of game action. With Evans a part of the roster, Davidson is one of just two teams in all of NCAA Division I women's basketball with four Australia natives on its team.
The Wildcats will be back in action to conclude regular season play at home on Friday night and Sunday afternoon of next week, as Davidson hosts Saint Louis and Dayton, respectively, inside Belk Arena.
