WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Davidson Wildcats struggled to find their momentum on Friday night against George Washington, as the 'Cats hit just five first-half field goals and shot 34 percent on the night, while the Colonials came out with a 59-44 Atlantic 10 victory.
GW outscored Davidson 30-18 from inside the paint, and won on the glass, 35-24.
Cassidy Gould and Cameron Tabor led the Wildcats, as Gould matched a game-high 14 points and Tabor scored 13 of her own. Between the two, the duo shot 47.4 percent from the field. Katie Turner was Davidson's third scorer to reach double-figures, for the second-straight game, as the senior guard tallied 11 points and hit two three-pointers.
George Washington jumped out to a 10-0 lead to start the contest, as Davidson would not hit its first shot of the night until the 3:39-mark of the first quarter, when Tabor hit a corner trey.
The Wildcats seemed to hit their stride, as Turner followed Tabor's lead and hit a jumper from the top of the key, that cut Davidson's early deficit in half, as GW hung onto a 10-5 lead.
Gould began the second quarter showing more life in the Wildcat offense, as a three-pointer once again cut Davidson's deficit to five points, down 15-10. However, from there the Colonials answered back with a 6-0 run and took a 21-10 lead, for their then-largest of the night, while the 'Cats went scoreless over the last 4:26 of the half to fall behind 25-12 heading into the second.
Davidson had its strongest shooting effort in the third, with the Wildcats shooting a game-best 46.2 percent from the field, led by Gould and Tabor who tallied six and five points, respectively. The 'Cats would come back within 10 of GW, but a 7-0 run for the Colonials allowed the home team to pull ahead to a 17-point margin heading into the fourth and ultimately secure a 59-44 conference win.
The Wildcats will look to bounce back this weekend, as they head to George Mason for a Saturday night tilt in Fairfax, Va.
