Davidson Swept in Loss to Flames

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Davidson women's tennis program suffered its second straight road loss Saturday morning, with a 7-0 loss to Liberty University.
Â
Despite the loss, the Wildcats were the Flames' first opponent to compete in their brand new indoor tennis center.Â
"I was extremely proud of the team today," said Head Coach Suzanne Depka. "There was great improvement from the previous match against Charlotte. We competed very well today and fought hard. The score was not indicative of their performance. We held our heads high and were every positive and came together as a team and had a ton of support! We did a lot of things well and are continuing to improve. If we keep moving in the right direction the outcome will begin to fall in our favor. I truly believe this will happen for this group!"
Â
Freshman Victoria Anyanwu earned the first start of her young Davidson career, making an appearance with fellow rookie, Ava Ignatowich, on the No. 3 doubles court. Anyanwu also earned a singles start, competing on court six.Â
Â
The Wildcats dropped the doubles point with three-match losses, but Davidson's No. 1 unit of Nicole Krykanov and Josie Schaffer led midway through their match until the Flames came out with a 7-5 win.
Â
Ignatowich and Franny Shea battled from courts four and five, respectively, both falling by 6-4 scores in set one, then dropping set two by 6-1 and 6-2 results.
Â
Davidson will return to the courts next weekend to begin Atlantic 10 conference play against VCU in Richmond.Â
