The Series
- Wednesday's meeting will be the 31st all-time between App State and Davidson.
- App State holds the all-time series at a 27-23 advantage.
- In the Gayle Fulks era, Davidson has gone 2-1 when taking on the Mountaineers.
- Heading into the Wednesday game, App and Davidson are both coming off a loss.
- A win against App State would be Davidson's first win against the Mountaineers at home since 2013, Head Coach Gayle Fulks' third win against App in her tenure and be the first time Davidson won back-to-back meetings with App State since winning four in a row during SoCon play from 2012-2013.
THE ROOKIE... Davidson's rookie Issy Morgan has been the story so far this season for the 'Cats, as she has won back-to-back A-10 Rookie of the Week honors, averaging 9.8 points per game through eight games. The Australia native is shooting 53.1 percent from the field and 47 percent (8-of-17) from beyond the arc while her three-point field goal percentage ranks number one in the Atlantic 10 conference, and she sits top-6 in field goal percentage across the league.
THE LAST TIME... Powered by an electric, 32-point performance from then-junior Chloe Welch, the Davidson Wildcats pulled off a second-half comeback to defeat the App State Mountaineers, 67-64 last December. Welch's 32 points, 18 of which came in the fourth quarter alone, set a new career-high for the Colorado native, and marked the first 30+ point performance by a Wildcat since Suzi-Rose Deegan did so in December of 2019.
DID YOU KNOW... In the last four meetings between Davidson and App State, the final score has been decided by three points or less. Davidson and App have exchanged wins for the last four years, with the 'Cats winning the last bout, 67-64.
HOMETOWN HEROES... The 'Cats have had three straight winning seasons at home (8-5, 10-6, 5-4) in 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21, and have averaged 69.2 points per game inside Belk Arena during that three-year stretch.
THE SUTPHIN FILE... Forward Elle Sutphin joins the Wildcats for the 2021-22 campaign, after spending her first two seasons of college basketball with the NC State Wolfpack. The redshirt sophomore comes to Davidson after earning an ESPNW Scout Grade of 97 during high school, where she was the No. 39 ranked recruit in the class of 2020 and No. 1 across the state of North Carolina. Through eight games, Sutphin averages 11.9 points per game and is shooting 55.4 percent from the field in a sixth woman role.
