Running back Dylan Sparks rushed for 130 yards on 18 carries, his second 100+ yard rushing game, and added a touchdown. Quarterback Louis Colosimo completed 10 of 23 passes and rushed for 86 yards, while Kellyn West made three catches for 42 yards.
An offensive miscue led to a quick Dayton 7-0 lead, but the Wildcats and Sparks marched down the field with the junior scoring a 28-yard touchdown. A Davidson penalty pushed the PAT back to the 18-yard line and the wind took Caden Bonoffski's attempt wide left. Dayton held a slight 7-6 lead.
The Wildcats forced a three-and-out after a Jonathan Hammond sack and the Flyers settled for a field goal on their next drive, leading 10-6.
Halfway through the second quarter, Dayton extended their lead to 17-6, but not for long. Davidson capped off a 10-play, 75-yard drive with a 26-yard touchdown run by Aris Hilliard, on his way to an 80-yard rushing effort. 'Cats made the stop on defense and ended the half on a 37-yard Bonoffski field goal to bring it within one, 17-16.
Dayton scored twice in as many drives to end the third quarter and start the fourth. On Davidson's first drive of the fourth, running back Coy Williams scored his 13th touchdown of the season, leaving Dayton with a 31-23 advantage with 9:12 left in the game.
It was 'Cats' ball with four minutes left in the game, Colosimo escaped the pocket and ran it 49 yards to the house.
The Flyers stopped the two-point conversion to make it a 38-29 ballgame before the final horn sounded.
Miles Davis and Hammond led the defense with 9 tackles apiece. Ryan Moog recorded his first sack of the season for a loss of 31 yards.
