DAVIDSON — Izzy Moody scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season to lead the Davidson field hockey team to a 2-1 Atlantic 10 victory over Saint Louis Friday night at Belk Turf Field.
It's the Wildcats' second straight A-10 win, following last weekend's double-overtime defeat of Lock Haven.
Moody's go-ahead goal came 6:45 into the third quarter and about an hour after she was honored alongside teammates Chloe Appleby, Grayson Buben and Julia Smith on Senior Night.
"We knew it was going to be a battle," said Davidson coach Zoe Almquist. "Everyone came really ready to play. Senior Night can be tricky, but I was really pleased with all four seniors. They all played really well and put their emotions aside and focused on the task at hand. It was just a good fight."
After a shotless first quarter, the teams quickly traded goals in the second. Saint Louis struck first with a goal by Lauren Pendergast just 33 seconds into the period. Davidson tied it 1:20 later on a goal from Evie Lake, assisted by Natalie Naticchia.
"There's two ways we can respond at that point," said Almquist. "So to have us immediately come back down and score was a pivotal moment for us."
