SETTING THE SCENE... After going on a six-game win streak, which was the longest run for the program in seven years, the Davidson Wildcats have dropped their last three contests on the road to UMass, Rhode Island and Dayton. The 'Cats are currently in ninth place among A-10 standings with a 3-3 record, taking on the Rams who are in third place with a 5-2 conference ledger.
LAST TIME OUT... The 'Cats traveled to Dayton on Jan. 14, looking to pick up their seventh win of the season over the Flyers. The contest started out as a back-and-forth affair, but a 14-2 run from Dayton over the second and third quarters would force Davidson to play comeback for the remainder of the contest. Despite trailing by as many as 18 points, the 'Cats did make it close, pulling out a 9-0 scoring run of their own to come within six of the Flyers. However, the deficit proved to be too much to overcome as the Wildcats fell 64-58 to the A-10's top-seeded Dayton.
THE SERIES... Fordham holds the all-time series at a 9-5 clip. The Wildcats won the last meeting, 79-64 in Rose Hill Gym. Davidson had their season-best shooting performance last time out against the Rams, torching the nets, 53.8 percent on the day. The 'Cats shot 9-of-21 from three-point range, back on Dec. 21 against Fordham, and Suzi-Rose Deegan scored 23 points in 20 minutes of work.
WELCH'S WAY... Chloe Welch has been Davidson's anchor this season, scoring in double figures in all but two of the Wildcats' games thus far. The Colorado native set a career-high 23 points in Davidson's opening #BeachBubble tournament, before topping that mark with 32 points against Appalachian State. Her 32-point performance came with 18 fourth quarter points and earned her her first Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honor on Dec. 14. Against Dayton, Welch dropped 22 points, marking her 10th scoring performance in double-digits this season and fourth 20+ point effort.
AUSSIE MAGIC... Davidson's Australian pipeline of Adelaide Fuller, Cassidy Gould and Suzi-Rose Deegan has proven to have fire power for the Wildcats this year. The trio averages a combined 28.2 points per game and are three of Davidson's top four scorers this season. Fuller earned her first career start last Sunday against the Rams, and Deegan, the reigning A-10 Rookie of the Year, is averaging 10.8 points per game over her last four outings.
HOT HANDS... In six of their last nine games, the Wildcats have shot 39 percent or better from the floor, on 195-of-465 (42.0% overall) shooting across the field in that span. In Davidson's win over Fordham, the 'Cats had a season-best outing, shooting 53.8 percent on the day.
THE PIPELINE... Davidson currently has four Australia natives on its 2020-21 roster, in Suzi-Rose Deegan, Adelaide Fuller, Cassidy Gould and Keeley Evans. Assistant coach James Janssen also calls Australia home, as the Wildcats are just one of two NCAA teams with four Australians on its roster.
HOMETOWN HEROES... The 'Cats had back-to-back winning seasons at home (8-5 & 10-6) in 2018-19 and 2019-20, and haved averaged 69.2 points per game inside Belk Arena during that two-year stretch. This season, Davidson is 4-0 at home.
