DAYTONA, Fla. — Davidson got back on the winning side, snapping a two-match losing streak with a 5-2 road win in men's tennis at Bethune Cookman Friday morning.
The Wildcats moved to 8-4 on the season and sent BCU to 1-6, while improving to 4-0 in the series that dates back to 2017.
For the sixth straight match, Davidson jumped out to a 1-0 lead after capturing the doubles point. The top team of Axel Fries and Douglas Macintosh secured their sixth win in eight matches with a 6-3 victory. It was their first at the top spot.
Yash Parikh and partner Matthew Rose rolled to a 6-0 win to move to 6-4 on the season with a 2-0 mark at No. 2.
In singles, the 'Cats took wins at No. 2, 3 and 5 positions to seal up the win. Fries made it a perfect day by taking a 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 2 to run his season record to 7-5.
Thomas Mason and Camen Mazzoni nailed down straight-set wins at No. 3 and 5, respectively. Mason bumped his record to a team-best 8-4 on the season (4-4 at No. 3) after giving up just three games in a 6-1, 6-2 match. Mazzoni was just as impressive, allowing just two games in his 6-0, 6-2 decision, running his record to 3-1 on the season.
Davidson returns home next week for a Tuesday, March 10, match against Navy at 3 p.m.
