DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson hit the double-digit mark in wins for the sixth consecutive season when it netted a 5-2 victory against Saint Joseph's Thursday afternoon at home in Atlantic 10 men's tennis action on the Davidson Tennis Courts.
The Wildcats ran their record to 10-4 on the season with a 2-1 mark in A-10 matches, while SJU fell to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the league.
For the eighth match in a row and 11th time overall, the 'Cats dropped out to a 1-0 lead in the match after taking the doubles point. Axel Fries and Douglas Macintosh scored a 7-5 win at No. 1 to give them an 8-2 record (3-1 at the top spot), while Yash Parikh and Matthew Rose nailed down a 6-2 win at No. 2. The duo won their fifth in a row and moved to 8-4 on the season.
The Hawks would take the top two spots in singles, but Davidson captured wins at the other four positions to earn the team victory and moved their home record to 7-1. It was the 'Cats third win overall.
Thomas Mason pulled out a three-setter at No. 3, splitting the first two sets, 3-6 and 6-0, before closing out the match with a 6-3 decision to give him a team-best 10-4 record.
At No. 4, Sam Kavarana scored a 6-2, 7-5 decision for his eighth win of the season, while Camden Mazzoni kept his singles winning streak intact at four straight with a dominating a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 5. He sits at 5-1 on the season.
Wrapping up the singles victors on the day was Macintosh with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 6, giving him a 6-2 mark on the season. All six wins have come at No. 6 this year.
