DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team continued their dominance at home this season when they captured a 5-2 victory Tuesday afternoon against Navy on the Davidson Tennis Courts.
The Wildcats ran their home record to 6-1 and won for the fifth time in the past seven matches overall to improve to 9-4 on the season. Navy fell to 16-8 after also dropping a contest at Elon earlier in the day.
For the seventh consecutive match, the doubles point went to the 'Cats after they took a pair of 6-3 decisions at the top two spots. The No. 1 team of Axel Fries and Douglas Macintosh ran their record to 7-2 on the season, while Yash Parikh and Matthew Rose tied them with their seventh win together at No. 2, where they are 3-0 on the season.
Navy would take the top two singles positions in three sets, but Davidson answered by winning positions 3-6 to earn the team victory. Three of those wins went to a third set.
Sam Karavana won the lone 'Cat to win in straight sets, taking a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 4 to move his record to 7-6 on the season.
The trio of Thomas Mason, Camden Mazzoni and Macintosh all needed an extra set, but got the job done in winning style. Mason ran his record to a team-best 9-4 during his senior season by earning a 7-6, 1-6, 6-1 victory at No. 3.
Mazzoni won his third singles match in a row after pulling out a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 decision at No. 5, while Macintosh ran his season record to 5-2 after a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 victory at No. 6. All five of his wins have come at that position.
Davidson as a team ran its record to 44-31 in singles matches and 21-10 in doubles this season.
Continuing their busy week, the Wildcats will stay at home to host Saint Joseph's, March 12, at 3 p.m. before closing out the week with a 1 p.m. match at UNCG, March 15.
