UMass Shoots Past Wildcats Saturday, 61-48

AMHERST, Mass. — Massachusetts shot 50 percent in the first half and got a career-high 23 points from Vashnie Perry as Davidson dropped a 61-48 decision on the road Saturday afternoon inside the Mullins Center in Atlantic 10 women's basketball play.
The Wildcats fell to 14-13 overall and 7-7 in A-10 action, while the Minutewomen ran their record to 17-10 and tied the 'Cats at 7-7 in league play.
UMass hit 28-of-62 shots (45.2 percent) overall for the game, including 16-of-32 in the first half when it built a double-digit lead. The lead would grow to as many as 20 in the second half.
In addition to Perry, the Minutewomen got 12 points each from Hailey Leidel and Sam Breen, who pulled in a career-best 17 rebounds.
Cameron Tabor paced the 'Cats' offense with a season-high tying 14 on a season-best 6-of-9 shooting and a couple three-balls, while Ally Welling chipped in 10 points. On the rebounding front, Sarah Konstans hauled in a career-best 12 and Katie Turner dished out a game-high seven dimes.
Davidson was held to 36.2 percent shooting (21-of-58) and made just 4-of-18 three-point attempts. It did finish with a game-high 16 assists and blocked a season-high tying six shots, two each from Konstans and Fuller.
The score was tied at 4-all when UMass pulled away by using a 12-6 run to finish the first quarter up 16-10. It hit 8-of-14 shots in the quarter and got 10 points from Perry.
A Welling jumper with 7:18 in the second quarter had the Wildcats within two at 18-16. The Minutewomen though, countered by doubling up the 'Cats the rest of the quarter, 16-8, and took a 10-point lead at the break (34-24).
A 15-5 run to open the third saw Davidson fall behind by 20 points (49-29) and it was never able to recover.
The Wildcats play their final regular season road game with a trip to Philadelphia, Pa., to take on La Salle Wednesday, Feb. 26 for an Education Day game.
GAME NOTES: This was 10th meeting all-time between both team's women's basketball programs …. The Wildcats fell to 3-7 in the series, as UMass swept this year's two-game season-series … Davidson has 41 assists combined the past three games … Chloe Welch tied her career-high with three steals.
