WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Capping off a busy week, the Davidson men's tennis team traveled to nationally-ranked Wake Forest Sunday and dropped a 7-0 decision inside the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
The Wildcats went 1-2 on the week against USC Upstate, Furman and No. 6 Wake Forest, seeing their record go to 4-2 on the season. The Demon Deacons improved to 7-1 on the year.
Playing their first ranked opponent since opening the 2018 season against No. 20 South Carolina, the 'Cats battled in doubles play before falling at No. 2 and 3 positions by the same score of 6-4. The pair of Matthew Rose and Yash Parikh had their match go unfinished at No. 1 as they were down just 6-5.
Wake Forest went on to take all six singles positions in straight sets to secure the team win. Parikh held strong at No. 1, winning seven games combined in a 6-4, 6-3 setback.
At No. 3, Thomas Mason held his own against 100th ranked Siddhant Banthia, going all the way to a tie-breaker in the first set before falling 7-1 and then dropped a 6-2 decision in the second set.
Davidson will next return home to face Wingate and North Carolina A&T in a doubleheader this Saturday, Feb. 15.
