Men’s Tennis Nets a Pair of Wins Saturday at Home

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team quickly ended their two-match losing streak by taking 7-0 and 6-1 matches, respectively, at home against Wingate and North Carolina A&T Saturday inside the Knobloch Tennis Center.
The Wildcats pushed their record to 6-2 on the season, with a 4-0 mark at home.
They opened the day by sweeping the Wingate Bulldogs with wins at two doubles spots and all six singles spots. In the afternoon match, the 'Cats took two of the three doubles and then sealed up the team match win by taking five of the six singles matches played.
In doubles, Matthew Rose and Yash Parikh along with Douglas Macintosh and Axel Fries each picked up 6-3 wins at No. 1 and 2 positions vs. Wingate.
After Davidson fell at No. 1 doubles in the second match vs. N.C. A&T, Macintosh and Fries made it a clean sweep on the day for them with a 6-4 win at No. 2 to run their record to 3-1. The pair of Sam Kavarana and William Clark sealed up the team point with a 6-2 decision.
Singles play in the first match vs. the Bulldogs all went straight sets in favor of the 'Cats. Against the Aggies, Davidson played a trio of three set matches and pulled out two of them, while taking the other three spots in straight sets.
Pushing their winning streaks to two in a row were Fries, Brooks Green, Sam Kavarana and Thomas Mason. The senior Fries took a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 2 in the first match and then moved up to No. 1 for his first win there on the season with a 6-3, 6-3 decision to give him a 5-3 record on the season.
Green had wins of 6-2, 7-6 and 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5, giving him a 4-1 record, while Kavarana improved to 5-3 after victories of 6-0, 6-3 (No. 4) and 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 (No. 3).
Continuing his impressive senior campaign was Mason, moving to a team-best 6-2 on the year after taking wins of 6-4, 6-4 (No. 3) and 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 (No. 2) vs. the Bulldogs and Aggies.
Parikh had a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 vs. Wingate and Macintosh rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 in the same match.
Rounding out the winners on the day was Camden Mazzoni at No. 6 after he scored a 7-5, 6-1 victory vs. N.C. A&T.
Davidson takes a little break before stepping back on the tennis courts, Feb. 26, at home vs. Presbyterian at 5 p.m.
