DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson pushed its winning streak to three straight after securing a 5-2 win at home Wednesday evening against Presbyterian in men's tennis inside the Knobloch Tennis Center.
The Wildcats continued their strong season, moving to 7-2 while sending the Blue Hose to 3-8. The 'Cats also ran their record to 8-3 in the series that dates back to 2005.
For the sixth time this year, Davidson got the first point by taking two of the three doubles matches. The duo of Yash Parikh and Matthew Rose evened their season record to 4-4 with a 6-1 win at No. 1. Then Douglas Macintosh and Axel Fries won their third in a row and sealed up the doubles point after taking a 6-4 decision at No. 2.
Three of those four 'Cats went on to nail down singles wins in helping to score the team victory. The Wildcats ran their singles record as a team to 34-18 on the season.
Parikh pulled out a tough three-setter, going the distance in all three sets for a 5-7, 7-6, 7-5 win at No. 1 to give him a 5-3 record. Right behind him was Fries, who won in straight sets at No. 2 by taking home a 6-4, 6-4 win to push his winning streak to three straight and overall record to a team-best tying 6-3.
At No. 6, Macintosh split his first two sets, 6-1 and 3-6 before picking up a super tie-breaker win, 10-7, to determine his singles match. The junior remained perfect at that position with a 4-0 mark.
Giving the Wildcats their final team point was sophomore Brooks Green at No. 5. The second-year player scored a 6-3, 6-4 decision for his third straight win and improve to 5-1 overall on the season.
