FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Davidson Wildcats are set to tip off the 2020-21 season at bdG Sports' #BeachBubble at the Gulf Coast Showcase tomorrow afternoon. The tournament will feature the 'Cats playing three-straight contests, against No. 12 Maryland, Wake Forest and FGCU. Friday's match up against the Terps will mark Davidson's latest season opener since the Wildcats began the 2003-04 season against Michigan State on November 22, 2003. The opening contest will also mark 266 days since the 'Cats last stepped on the floor together.

WHAT YOU MISSED... Davidson enters this year after having back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. A winning record this year will be the first time Davidson women's basketball has had a winning record for three straight seasons, since the 'Cats did so for five consecutive seasons from 2003-04 to 2007-08.

ABOUT THE TERPS... The Terps enter the #BeachBubble ranked 12th in the nation and are reigning Big 10 regular season champions. Maryland finished the shortened 2019-20 season with a 28-4 record, and were averaging 82.8 points per game to match 46.8 percent shooting from the floor. The Big 10 juggernauts lost three of their top four leading scorers from a season ago, but are led by Ashley Owusu, who averaged 12.0 points per game as a freshman and had the team-high 147 assists.

SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS... As the 'Cats gear up to take on Wake Forest, this meeting will mark the first time in Head Coach Gayle Fulks' tenure that she is taking on her former squad. The Deacs are coming off a .500 season with a 16-16 overall record and 7-11 finish in the ACC in 2019-20. Wake Forest returns its leading scorer in Ivana Raca, who boasted a 17.2 points per game average one season ago.

WHAT TO WATCH FROM THE EAGLES...  Florida Gulf Coast's Eagles are favorites to win the ASUN Conference this year, after going 30-3 last season and making it to the conference championship before the season was officially halted due to COVID-19. FGCU started off last year's campaign with an 8-1 stretch, including wins over Notre Dame and then No. 20 University of South Florida.

TURNER'S TOUCH... Senior guard, Katie Turner has already left her mark on the Wildcats' program. She moved to third all-time in career assists (372) after dishing 127 assists last season and is just 97 assists away from taking over the second all-time slot. The Nevada native is also a member of Davidson's 1,000 point club and moved into fourth all-time for career three-pointers with 199 total, after draining 66 three's last season. She continues to climb this program rank, as she is just 33 made-three's away from taking over the program record.

STRENGTH IN NUMBERS... Looking back on last season, Davidson was 12-2 when making 25 field goals or more in a single game. In those games, the Wildcats shot at least 35.9 percent or better from from the floor including two performances with a 50 percent or higher field goal percentage.

GETTING CLOSER... Predicted to finish fourth overall among the Atlantic 10 standings this year, the Wildcats are coming off back-to-back appearances in the conference's quarterfinal games. With the fourth place nod in the preseason polls, this marked the highest predicted finish for the program since joining the A-10 in 2014-15.

CONFERENCE NODS... Three 'Cats were named to an Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference team this year, including, reigning Rookie of the Year, Suzi-Rose Deegan who earned Davidson's first ever Preseason First Team All-Conference honor. Seniors Katie Turner and Sarah Donovan were also named to the A-10's Second and Third Preseason All-Conference teams, respectively, marking the first time that three Wildcats have earned preseason conference nods in the same season, since joining the Atlantic 10.
