FAIRFAX, Va. – The Davidson women's track and field team reset five school records in a successful weekend at the 2019 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship at the George Mason Field House.
The Wildcats registered 46.50 points to place eighth as a team. VCU claimed the top spot (136), while host George Mason (120.5) and Massachusetts (95) rounded out the top three scoring teams, respectively.
Davidson added a pair of relay records Sunday to the three individual ones they set Saturday. The 4x800-meter relay team of Eleni Daughters, Sophia Mills, Claire Nieusma and Caroline Willis placed second with a new standard of 9:04.08, breaking a four-year-old mark from the 2015 A-10 Championship.
The second record to fall on the day was in the final event of the weekend, the 4x400-meter relay. The squad of Katie Hines, Grace Loehr, Tori Long and Bianca Nolde-Lopez and took fourth with a time of 3:49.50.
A staple on the podium at any A-10 champs, senior Caroline Yarbrough placed second for the second time in as many days, stopping the clock in a personal best time of 9:40.97 over 3,000-meters.
Wildcat Eleni Daughters ran hard in a fast field in the 800-meter run. The sophomore placed third with a time of 2:13.08. Senior Tori Long also scored, claiming fifth in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:15.32.
On the field side, junior Makayla Binter competed well, once again. A day after placing sixth in the pentathlon, Binter cleared 1.55-meters (5'1) in the high jump to score again for the 'Cats.
"I could not be more proud of our team! Our young group set five school records, the future for the program is truly bright," said director of track and field Jen Straub. "We got some consistent performances that we expect from our seniors and some of the young women performed well to set a tone for the future."
Davidson opens its outdoor slate Friday, Mar. 15 on the opening day of the 49er Classic hosted by UNC Charlotte.
