Furman Halts Davidson’s Three-Match Win Streak

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson's attempt at a perfect weekend was spoiled by Furman Sunday afternoon when it fell 6-1 in men's tennis action inside Knobloch Tennis Center. The Wildcats had swept a doubleheader Saturday vs. Wingate and North Carolina A&T.
The defeat snapped the Wildcats' three-match win streak and sent them to a 6-3 record overall. The Paladins improved to 6-3 on the year. Both teams were playing each other for the 26th time since 1988.
Despite the defeat, the Wildcats battled to the end at each of the six singles positions, playing four tie-breaker sets and two more that were decided by scores of 7-5.
Freshman Brooks Green claimed the one team point for the 'Cats, taking a 6-0, 7-5 decision at No. 5 to run his record to 6-3 on the season. It was the first-year's third straight win.
Dropping just their second matches of the season was Yash Parikh, Sam Kavarana and Camden Mazzoni. Parikh fell 6-4, 7-6 at No. 2, seeing his record go to 6-2, while Sam Kavarana dropped a 7-6, 6-4 decision at No. 3 to see his record fall to 5-2.
Mazzoni's record went to 6-2 after a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6 defeat at No. 4.
Davidson plays its second Atlantic 10 match this coming Friday, Feb. 22, at Saint Joseph's for a 7 p.m. match.
