HIGH POINT, N.C. — Davidson closed out a busy four-game road swing in a nine-day span with a 73-63 victory at High Point Monday night inside the Millis Center.
The Wildcats won their second straight to move to 6-3 on the season and ended their road swing at Virginia Tech, Duke, East Tennessee State and High Point with a 2-2 mark.
Leading the charge on the night was the post duo of freshman Adelaide Fuller, who scored a season-high 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting, and junior Sarah Donovan, who registered her third double-double of the season with 12 points and a new career-high 20 rebounds.
Freshman Suzi-Rose Deegan also helped out, scoring a game-high tying 20 points with 12 of those coming in the second half.
Fuller scored six straight during an 8-0 run in the first quarter that helped the Wildcats turn a 13-7 deficit into a 21-19 lead. The freshman, who scored 13 first-half points, then drilled a triple at the top of the key that capped off an 11-2 run to open the second quarter for a 32-21 advantage and the Wildcats headed to halftime up 38-27.
Davidson led by as many as 25 points (58-33) in the third quarter before HPU used a 13-2 run, including a 10-0 stretch, that spanned at the end of the third and into the fourth quarter to cut the lead down to 60-46.
High Point (2-5) closed to within 11 late in the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats weathered the drought, getting a combined 11 final points from Fuller, Donovan and Deegan to seal up the win.
The Wildcats finished the night shooting 45.3 percent and dominated the glass with a season-high 47 rebounds (47-24). They again won the battle of benches, scoring 43 points to HPU's 23.
Camryn Brown paced the Panthers with 20 points, 17 in the final two quarters, while Amaria McNear scored 10 points. HPU was held to 37.1 percent shooting (23-of-62) and went 8-for-24 from behind the arc.
The 'Cats finally return home after their long road trip and will next host Newberry College this Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.
GAME NOTES: This was the 14th meeting all-time between both team's women's basketball programs … Davidson won its sixth straight in the series to improve its record to 9-5 vs. the Panthers … Davidson wrapped up tonight playing seven of its first nine games on the road … Donovan's double-double was the 17th of her career … the junior's 20 rebounds was the most since Sophia Aleksandravicius had that many at Appalachian State, Jan. 15, 2012 … Davidson has had at least three players score in double digits in six of the nine games this season.
