Sitting in the stands at John M. Belk Arena and cheering on the Wildcats is one thing. Being a true insider to the Davidson College men's basketball program is another. Members of the Fast Break Club enjoy chalk talks with Head Coach Bob McKillop and his staff, gather for pre-game and half-time food and drinks and have special access to players and coaches throughout the year. Club members receive a close look at the game, the people and the future of the 'Cats.
"The Fast Break Club is a great way to stay connected to the college," said Alice Neumann Ourso '06 and Biff Ourso '05. "As alumni, we are proud that the basketball team has helped earn Davidson national recognition, and it's great to have insider information on the opponents and updates on our own players. Last year, we were lucky enough to travel with the team to an away game, which was an amazing experience!"
The Fast Break Club is open to all Davidson season ticket holders. Membership levels are $1,000 for individuals and $1,500 for families – 80 percent is tax deductible. Young alumni (those 0-5 years out) can join at half that price. When bus trips are offered for fans and the end-of-season banquet comes around, Fast Break Club members have first access. The tax-deductible portion of the gift counts as an annual gift to the Davidson Athletic Fund and The Fund for Davidson.
Alumni and friends enjoy the same benefits, which leads to networking opportunities, community building and more.
"Our membership allows us to demonstrate our commitment, win or lose, to the program Bob McKillop and his staff have established," said Bob and Kitty Paschka, Davidson community members. "The pre-game gatherings where the assistant coaches visit to discuss the upcoming game offers insight to team strategy, starting lineup, injury updates and answers members questions – that makes us true insiders. The greatest benefit is getting to know the coaches and administrators and having them address us on a first-name basis. This makes us feel a part of the Davidson Athletics community."
Membership costs are among the lowest in the Atlantic 10 Conference, making it a great value. The contributions help support every aspect of the men's basketball program, including team travel, equipment needs recruiting efforts.
"Fast Break Club members are critical to the success of our program," said Coach McKillop. "First, the financial contributions move our program forward. Just as important is the support we feel and the excitement this group brings to each season. They are our biggest cheering section and our most loyal fans. There are wonderful benefits for club members, but the true beneficiaries are our exceptional scholar-athletes."
