WXC Looks Ahead to A-10 Championship Saturday

LEESBURG, Va. - The Davidson women's cross country team heads back to Oatlands Plantation for the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship hosted George Mason University.

Men's 8k Race: 10:00 a.m.
Women's 5k Race: 10:50 a.m.
SEASON REWIND
"Training has been going very well the last few weeks, so I feel the team is ready for a strong performance. The championship season is a great test of our fitness and if we show fortitude and confidence during the race on Saturday, we will be pleased where we land!"

SEASON REWIND
- The Wildcats earned a pair of top-five finishes, claiming fourth at both the adidas XC Challenge and the Royals Cross Country Challenge.
- Senior Maddie Hunter has slotted in at the top spot after leading the way at the last two races. The Charlottesville, Va., native earned Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week honors after a 28th place, 18:17.0 5k at the Royals Cross Country Challenge.
- Wildcat freshman Natalie Abernathy has broken 18:30 in all three of her races and has led or been right behind Hunter in each event.
- Prior to the start of the 2019 campaign, Davidson was tabbed to finish eighth in the A-10 Preseason Coaches Poll, announced back in August.
- Defending champion, Richmond, were tabbed to repeat, while Dayton and La Salle rounded out the top three.
- Four league teams enter the championship weekend among the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Regional Rankings.
- George Washington, La Salle and Duquesne are among the top squads in the Mid-Atlantic region, while Dayton snuck into the last spot of the Great Lakes Region.

2018 A-10 CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
- Caroline Yarbrough '19 led the way with an All-Conference performance as the Wildcats placed seventh at Pole Green Park.
- Maddie Hunter placed 20th, ahead of Sophia Mills '19 in 30th. Susannah Cate and Rachel Shapiro rounded out the scoring contingent.
- Paige McKinney, Anna Kathryn Kilby, Katie Macturk and Beatrice Levy all l got championship race experience.
