Maple Leads Wildcats to Runner-Up Showing at Elon Opener

ELON, N.C. – In her first collegiate race, freshman Sarah Maple finished seventh with a time of 14:35.7 to lead the Davidson women's cross country team to a runner-up finish in the Friday Night Lights – Elon Opener.
Ansley Prescott (14:56.5) and Abby Smith (14:57.1) also recorded Top-20 showings for the 'Cats coming home 17th and 19th, respectively, out of 146 runners.
Davidson, which placed second behind the host Phoenix in the season opener for the third straight season, finished with a final score of 93.
Sophomores Gilly Shumate (21st / 15:01.5) and Camryn Quinn (28th / 15:13.3) rounded out the scoring for the Wildcats.
Tonight's race was delayed 45 minutes due to severe weather in the triad.

After a two-week break, Davidson returns to the trails Sept. 18 at the adidas XC Challenge hosted by NC State at Wake Med Park in Cary.
