Women Come Home Sixth at NC State’s adidas XC Challenge

CARY, N.C. – In their second competition of the 2026 fall campaign, the Davidson women's cross country team finished sixth out of 16 teams at the adidas XC Challenge hosted by NC State Friday evening at WakeMed Soccer Park.
Coming off a seventh place finish in her collegiate debut two weeks ago at Elon, freshman Sarah Maple was once again the top finisher for the 'Cats, completing the 5K course in 18:06.1.
Sophomore Gilly Shumate posted the second best time for Davidson with a mark 18:26.6. Teammate Justine Meta finished less than a second behind Shumate, while Camryn Quinn (18:38.7) and Abby Smith (18:45.3) also scored for the Wildcats, who finished with 177 points just behind High Point outside the Top-5.
The host Wolfpack finished with five runners inside the top seven to capture the team title by 19 points over South Carolina (40).

Davidson will continue its slate in two weeks at the Richmond Invitational on Friday, Oct. 2.
