MECHANICSVILLE, Va. -- Davidson's Sarah Maple continued her remarkable freshman campaign by finishing fourth at the Atlantic 10 Women's Cross Country Championships Saturday morning at Pole Green Park.
In addition to recording the third highest finish (Sarah Sears - 2017 / Frances Whitworth - 2023) by a Wildcat in the meet since joining the league in 2014, Maple was named A10 Rookie of the Year and All-Conference.
Her personal-best time of 20:35.5 was just three seconds behind Hadley Mahoney (George Washington) and eight back of runner-up Allison Dougherty (Loyola-Chicago).
Oliwia Wawrzyniak of Saint Louis bettered the field by almost 50 seconds to claim the individual title.
Highlighted by four top-20 finishes, the Ramblers captured the team title for the fifth straight year.
For the second consecutive season, Davidson finished seventh out of 14 teams, matching its highest since the 2017 campaign.
Junior Abby Smith (21:30.2) came home just outside the top-25 for the 'Cats, while Gilly Shumate (21:44.2), Ansley Prescott (21:47.2) and Justine Meta (22:00.6) rounded out the team scoring for Davidson.
This marks the second time (Annie Norman – 2025) in as many years a Wildcat has been named A10 Rookie of the Year.
