‘Cats Picked Second in Poll; Backcourt Voted Preseason First Team

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Jon Axel Gudmundsson, last year's Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, and backcourt mate Kellan Grady, have been named preseason all-conference first team, while Davidson received eight first-place votes and was picked second in the preseason poll, as announced at the league's media day Thursday inside the Barclays Center.
The preseason awards/poll were voted on by the league's 14 head coaches and media members.
The Wildcat duo was joined on the first team by Jacob Gilyard (Richmond), Cyril Langevine (Rhode Island), Marcus Evans (VCU) and Obi Toppin (Dayton).

VCU tallied 19 of a possible 28 first-place votes and was tabbed the favorite ahead of the Wildcats (359 points), who return their entire starting lineup from last year's team that went 24-10 overall and 14-4 in conference play.
Dayton, which received the final first-place nod, is third in the poll with Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure rounding out the Top-5, while Richmond and last year's tournament champion, Saint Louis, were picked sixth and seventh respectively.
Duquesne garnered 196 points and is predicted eighth followed by George Mason, La Salle, Massachusetts, George Washington, Saint Joseph's and Fordham.
