DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson hosts their fifth straight game to open the season at Belk Turf Field Friday when Appalachian State visits for a non-conference field hockey tilt. Game time is slated to start at 7 p.m.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Davidson holds a 14-6 record all-time against the Mountaineers dating back to the first meeting in 2006. App State has won three of the last five meetings overall including last season's 2-0 win in Boone.
LAST TIME OUT
Senior midfielder Leigha Nortier netted her first career hat trick and totaled 7 points in a 5-2 win over LIU Brooklyn last Sunday at Belk Turf Field. All three goals came in the second half allowing Davidson to pull away from the Blackbirds. Senior Kristin Kisa scored the first two goals of the game to put the 'Cats up 2-0 early.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
Sophomore Chloe Bell leads the Mid-American Conference in assists (4) and assists per game (1.0), while Friederike Stegen leads the league in in game-winning goals (2). The App State offense features a balanced attack with five different Mountaineers netting two goals apiece. Rachel Gaines has seen the most action in cage and has stopped 17 shots.
HITTIN' THE ROAD
For the first time in 2018, the field hockey team will load the bus and head north to Longwood, Va. to compete in a neutral site game against UC Davis. The 'Cats are 4-0 all-time against the West Coast foe, but have not faced off against their former NORPAC rival since the 2012 conference tournament.
