COLUMBIA, S.C. — In their first Fall event, the Davidson men's tennis team sent four players to the South Carolina Gamecock Fall Invitational over the weekend, Sept. 21-23.
The best showing on the weekend belonged to Yash Parikh in the C Singles draw. The sophomore reached the semifinals. He opened with a 6-0, 6-2 win against a Presbyterian opponent and then followed up with a solid 6-3, 6-1 decision over Winthrop's Connor Williamson. Parikh captured a 6-3, 6-4 victory against a Georgia State foe in the third round before his weekend ended in the semifinals.
Freshman Brooks Green also competed in the C Singles draw and had a nice debut match against Winthrop's Lluis Miralles by pulling out a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory. The freshman's next two matches resulted in defeats, falling first to another Winthrop opponent, 6-2, 6-3 and then battling against Florida's Grey Cacciatore in a 7-5, 6-4 decision.
Tommy Mason and Axel Fries each competed in the B Singles draw, with Mason earning a win against ECU's Wisse Jonker on the consolation side.
In doubles, the duo of Parikh and Fries teamed up in the C Doubles draw and earned an 8-2 victory and then dropped an 8-5 decision.
Davidson hosts its own invitational next weekend, Sept. 28-30.
