DAVIDSON, N.C.  —
The Davidson men's tennis team got their 2019 Spring season underway with a 7-0 shutout win against visiting Boston Friday afternoon inside the Knobloch Tennis Center.

The Wildcats won their second in a row in the series vs. the Terriers (0-2), as both teams were meeting for the first time since 2009. They also won their season opener for the second time in the past three years.

In doubles, the duos of Douglas MacIntosh and Camden Mazzoni (6-0) along with Alexander Loope and Matthew Rose (6-2) opened the match with wins at No. 2 and 3 positions, respectively, for the early 1-0 lead.

Davidson then went on to sweep all six singles spots. At No. 1, junior Axel Fries regrouped after dropping his first set, 6-2, to net 6-3, 6-1 decisions in the next two sets for his 32nd career win.

Fellow junior Thomas Mason also came back from being a set down (7-6) to record a 6-4 set-two win and then a 10-5 super tie-breaker victory to give the 'Cats a win at No. 3.

Yash Parikh cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2, while sophomore Camden Mazzoni won a pair of tie-breakers at No. 6 for his first collegiate win.

In their first career matches, freshmen Sam Kavarana (6-2, 6-3 at No. 4) and Brooks Green (3-6, 6-2, 10-3 at No. 5) also recorded their first career wins to give the Wildcats the final two team points.

Davidson stays at home and will next host Winthrop, Jan. 27, for a 1 p.m. match.
