DAVIDSON, N.C. — This weekend marks the final two regular season home games for Davidson women's lacrosse team, as they will host Richmond Friday night and then take on VCU Sunday as part of Senior Day inside Richardson Stadium.
The Opening Draw Control...
Davidson (7-5, 2-2 A-10), winners of three of its last four games at home, will play Richmond (10-2, 4-0 A-10) Friday at 6 p.m. and then on Sunday face VCU (4-8, 2-2 A-10) at 12 p.m. inside Richardson Stadium. Prior to Sunday's game, the Wildcats will honor their four seniors, Rose Woolson, Rachel Hianik, Christine Molinari and Mackenzie Sivilli.
Game Promotion...
Friday's game will be the first annual "Food Truck Friday" for women's lacrosse. From 5:30-7 p.m., Carolina Craft Butchery will be serving food. In addition, the first 50 fans will get a FREE shaved ice from Kona Ice, which will be there for the majority of the game as well.
The All-Time Series/Last Meeting vs. Richmond & VCU ...
This is the 11th meeting all-time between Richmond and Davidson dating back to 1998 with the Wildcats trailing 7-3. They dropped a 16-8 decision on the road last year. The Spiders outscored the 'Cats 10-4 in the first half and added six more goals in the second half. Nicole Pettiglio and Christine Molinari paced the offense for Davidson with two goals each.
The series vs. the Rams is just two games old dating back to 2016 and has the 'Cats leading 2-0. In last year's road game, Pettiglio led a comeback by scoring six of her career-high seven goals during the rally and Davidson picked up a big comeback victory with a 13-10 road win at VCU. The Wildcats overcame a 7-2 deficit after the first 15 minutes of action by using a 5-0 run to close out the first half and then outscored the Rams 6-3 in the second half to pull out the win.

Goalie Rose Woolson is slowing climbing into the Wildcats' record books. She currently sits in fourth place in career saves with 408. She is also fourth in minutes and her current goals against average is third all-time (10.09). Last year as a junior Woolson set the program's single-season record in groundballs with 67, while her saves total (165) was sixth best.

Feb. 27: Senior goalie Rose Woolson collected Davidson's first Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse weekly award this year when she was tabbed co-defender of the week. Woolson, who shared the award with Saint Joseph's Bridget Cerciello, won her fifth career defensive player of the week honor. She finished the week with 28 saves, six groundballs, two caused turnovers and an 8.50 goals against average between the pipes. The senior from Baltimore, Md., had a stellar week during games against Winthrop and William & Mary. Woolson started the week off by holding the Eagles to five goals and coming up with a 14-save outing to earn the win. She added a season-high four groundballs and caused one turnover. Woolson capped the week off with another 14 saves at William & Mary, helping keep the Wildcats within striking distance before they fell 12-9. She added another two groundballs and forced a turnover.
March 20: After leading Davidson to a 2-0 record last week, the duo of Jordan Wood and Rose Woolson were named the Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Player and Defender of the Week. The weekly award for Wood, who shared it with Jocelyn Donohue of George Washington, is the first of her career, while Woolson won her second defender of the week award this year and sixth for her career. The duo was outstanding last week in wins against Iona (10-8) and at Campbell (13-6) to help the Wildcats snap their three-game losing streak. Wood led the offense with seven goals on 11 shots to go with three groundballs, two caused turnovers and a draw control. A career-high six of those goals came in the victory at Campbell as she scored three in each half.
Woolson picked up her 18th and 19th career wins between the pipes by finishing with 24 saves and a 7.00 goals against average. She had a save percentage of 63.2 percent and scooped up seven groundballs for the week. The two-time defender of the week registered 10 saves at home vs. Iona and then stopped 14 shots on the road at Campbell, allowing just six goals which was the second fewest she has allowed this season.
Last Time Out... April 8
DAVIDSON — A four-goal run by Saint Joseph's in the middle of the second half proved to be the difference as Davidson was unable to recover in falling 14-9 last Sunday afternoon. Three times throughout the game the Wildcats were within one goal, including at 8-7 with 16:52 left in the second half. But, the Hawks ran off a 4-0 run to make it 12-7 with 11:16 remaining and the 'Cats were held to just two more goals the rest of the game.
Sarah Kopp had her fourth hat trick of the season to pace the 'Cats on offense. The junior captain also recorded four groundballs, three draw controls and a caused turnover.
Christine Molinari scored twice to give her 31 points on the season, second-best on the team. Shayne Antolini pushed her team-best tying assist total to 19 with a pair of helpers to go with a goal, while Jordan Wood, Sophia Sgroi and Shannon Blee each scored once.
RICHMOND — The Spiders jumped ahead early with three goals in the first minute and a half and never looked back in a 14-3 win against George Washington last Sunday. Richmond closed the first half with a 10-3 lead never took its foot off the gas.
Marissa Brown added a hat trick to go with three assists while Kim Egizi tossed in a pair of scores to go with two assists. Madison Ostrick, Mia Castagnero and Aly Fries all contributed two goals while Katie Trainer came up with one.
VCU — With the game tied 4-4 with 9:27 left in the first half, VCU outscored the Bonnies 5-1 to take a 9-5 lead and held off St. Bonaventure for the final 26:28 of the contest to score a 13-8 win.
Sky Hyatt scored a game-high five goals on just seven shot attempts. Hyatt also added a game-high eight draw controls and two caused turnovers. Clare Murphy scored two goals and added an assist in addition to three draw controls.
Ria Peralta added five saves and Gillian Belfiore made eight saves as the two each played 30 minutes in the cage.
The Rams opened the game with back-to-back goals from Murphy and Emond to take a 2-0 lead with 25:58 left in the first half. The Bonnies then scored three of the next four goals to tie the game 3-3 with 11:50 left in the half. The two teams went back-and-forth until VCU held a slight 6-5 lead at halftime. VCU scored the first three goals of the second half to expand its lead to 9-5 with 26:28 remaining in the contest. St. Bonaventure got no closer than two goals for the remainder of the game.
