DAVIDSON, N.C.  —
Colgate used a late second half run and Davidson had two costly turnovers in the final 2:30 of the game, falling 10-9 Saturday afternoon in women's lacrosse inside Richardson Stadium.

It was the second straight one-goal setback for the Wildcats, who fell to 2-3 on the season and lost the first-ever meeting against the Raiders (4-2).

The Wildcats led 8-5 early in the second half, but saw the Raiders run off a 5-0 spurt go to up 10-8 to go up. The 'Cats, who closed within one goal after a score by Shayne Antolini at the 2:56 mark, had turnovers at 2:29 and seven seconds in their attempt to force overtime. The final turnover was on a charging call as Sarah Kopp made a move and was driving into the circle looking for a shot.

Christine Molinari and Olivia Carey tied for team high honors with three points each on two goals and an assist. Jordan Wood and Shayne Antolini had two goals of their own, while Sophia Sgroi earned two points on a goal and an assist.

Colgate was paced by Haley O'Hanlon and Danielle Van Calcar with two goals apiece. Payton Gabriel scored twice, including the eventual game-winner with 5:50 left in the game.

Trailing 4-1 after the first 13 minutes, the Wildcats got their offense going behind Molinari, who scored back-to-back goals during a 4-0 run to give the 'Cats a 5-4 lead and 5:39 left in the first half. The senior's two goals on the day gave her nine on the year.

Then after Colgate tied it a few minutes later, Carey scored her second of the game, and sixth of the season, with a thrilling off-balance shot and just four ticks on the clock to give Davidson a 6-5 halftime lead.

Davidson carried that momentum into the start of the second half, getting two more goals just 41 seconds apart from each other off the sticks of Antolini and Wood for an 8-5 lead. Wood's score was her 11th of the season, second best on the team.

The three-goal lead held up until Colgate got three straight scores over a five-minute span to tie things up at 8-all with 15:18 to go. The Raiders broke the tie with goals at the 7:06 and 5:50, before Davidson attempted its comeback in the closing three minutes.

Colgate had a 37-27 advantage in shots and won 15 of the 21 draw controls, while going 4-for-9 on free-position shots. Davidson scooped up a game-high 27 groundballs.

Goalie Rose Woolson again had a solid day between the pipes, finish with a career-high 19 saves to go with four groundballs.

Kopp picked up a team-best four draw controls, while Lindsay Rufolo and Claudia Becker forced two turnovers apiece.

Davidson wraps up its three-game homestand with a 6:30 p.m. contest vs. Iona next Wednesday, March 14
