Women's T&F Claims Four Wins at JDL Team Challenge

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Davidson women's track and field team posted four wins at the JDL Team Challenge Thursday night at JDL Fast Track.
Sophomore Susannah Cate opened the meet with a win in the 3k. The sophomore snapped the tape in 10:21.37, over 11 seconds than the next competitor. Teammates Abby Fry, Grace Falken and Hannah Moerk crossed the line in the third through fifth positions, respectively.
Junior Sophia Mills and senior Sierra Ponthier also came home victorious. Mills claimed the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.39, while Ponthier took the mile (5:04.16). Sophomore Katie MacTurck was second in the mile, while freshman Caroline Willis was fourth.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Katie Hines, Grace Loehr, Claie Nieusma and Jennifer Thompson took first, combining to stop the clock in 4:03.39.
Earlier in the week, sophomore Makayla Binter reset her own school record in the pentathlon, earning 3243 points at the Queen's University Combined Events. The Rochester, N.Y., native placed seventh overall.
Davidson returns to the track for the 2018 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship beginning Saturday, Feb. 17 at Mackal Fieldhouse and hosted by the University of Rhode Island.
