KINGSTON, R.I. – Senior Sarah Sears won her second event of the 2018 Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship and was fourth in another to earn the Women's Performer of the Meet distinction for Davidson women's track and field Sunday at Mackal Fieldhouse on the campus of Rhode Island.
Sears, who won the 5k Saturday evening, returned early in the meet Sunday and ran away with the mile title, stopping the clock in 4:51.35. The Arlington, Va., native was not done, returning later in the afternoon to place fourth in the 3k for a total of 25 points earned throughout the weekend. Junior Caroline Yarbrough, who took second behind her teammate Saturday, was second overall in the 3k, stopping the clock in 9:45.38. Both Sears and Yarbrough earned two All-Conference nods apiece and combined for 43 total points towards the team total - the best result for the 'Cats all-time.
Davidson registered 69.5 points for seventh overall, tallying 29.5 more points than their total from the 2017 Championship. VCU claimed the A-10 crown, recording 122.5 points. George Mason and Dayton rounded out the top three squads.
"I could not be prouder of our entire team! We scored in every event we entered and the most in program history, both indoor and out, said director of track and field Jen Straub. "There were so many outstanding performances and for a team of 15 we really made our presence known."
In her first A-10 champs, freshman Eleni Daughters placed fifth in the 800 meter run, stopping the clock in 2:15.05. The Wildcats also boasted a pair of individual seventh place finishes. Junior Tori Long took seventh in the finals of the 500m (1:16.52), while sophomore Maddie Hunter stopped the clock in the 1k at 2:58.05.
The Davidson 4x800-meter relay landed on the podium, placing third with a time of 9:14.53, while the 4x400-meter team took seventh (3:56.86).
