Hot Virginia Tech Squad Takes 6-1 Match over Davidson

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Davidson was unable to slow down a hot Virginia Tech men's tennis team, falling 6-1 on the road Sunday afternoon at the Burrows-Burlesson Tennis Center.
The Hokies (9-1) won their seventh straight, including wins against three Atlantic 10 schools. Davidson had its season-best three-match win streak halted to fall to 6-4 on the season.
The opening doubles point went to Virginia Tech after it secured wins of 6-4 and 6-3 at No. 1 and 3 positions. The duo of Yash Parikh and Jack Riazzi had their three-match win streak halted with the setback at No. 3. David Hager and Shamael Chaudhry kept a five-match win streak alive after their match went unfinished despite trailing 5-4.
In singles play, Artem Khrapko had an outstanding win for Davidson's lone team point on the afternoon. The senior upset No. 29 Mitch Harper at No. 1 by winning in three sets. After falling in the first set, 6-2, Khrapko came back with 6-4 and 7-5 wins in the next two sets to move his record to 6-4 on the season. He has won fourth straight now.
Four other Wildcats had their personal winning streaks snapped. Riazzi nearly gave the 'Cats a second team point, but had his career-high six-match win streak halted after a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0(10-8) defeat.
Axel Fries at No. 4 saw his five-match win streak come to an end with a straight set defeat, while Thomas Mason (No. 3, 6-1, 7-5) and David Hager (No. 5, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3) both had their three-match win streaks end.
Davidson plays its first Atlantic 10 match, March 5, in Lakeland, Fla., against Duquesne.
