NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Davidson swimmers Isabella McElrath and Hannah Gould have swept the Atlantic 10 weekly honors, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
McElrath, a junior from Baltimore, Md., is women's performer of the week for the second time this year (also Oct. 2), while Gould, a freshman from Rockville, Md., is rookie of the week. Both were recognized based on their performances in a team win over Old Dominion on Saturday, as Davidson earned all four of the league honors in swimming this week (Wildcats Crossan Cooper and Thacher Scannell swept the men's awards).
McElrath won three events against the Monarchs. She swept the 100 butterfly (58.15) and 200 butterfly (2:07.18) and swam on the Wildcats' winning 4x50 medley relay (1:49.84). She also swam to second in the 200 individual medley (2:10.54).
"Saturday was another in a string of impressive performances for Isabella," said Davidson coach John Young. "She's swimming really well right now; we're excited to see what she does at Bucknell."
Gould won the 100 breaststroke by nearly a full second (1:07.69) and also earned points in the 200 breast (2nd, 2:24.20), the 200 IM (4th, 2:13.43) and in the 4x50 medley relay (2nd, 1:51.01).
"I've been so impressed with Hannah," said Young. "This weekend, she again gave us a glimpse of the impact she can make for Davidson. Leading the Wildcats to a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 opened up the score on the women's side."
