Wildcats Take Part in Charlotte 49er Invite over Weekend

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team played its second to last Fall event over the weekend by competing in the Charlotte 49er Tennis Invitational, Nov. 3-4. The first day, Friday Nov. 2, was washed out by rain.
Nine players took part in both singles and doubles over the two-day invite, as there were four flights of singles and three flights of doubles.
In the top singles flight, A1, Axel Fries scored a pair of wins. He started out with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory against Edu Villar of Wofford before falling to a player from Wake Forest. The junior regrouped to score a 6-4, 6-1 consolation win against Oli Nolan of UNC Asheville.
Sam Kavarana and Cam Mazzoni also took part in the A1 singles flight. Kavarana won a three-setter against Elon's Jacob Bicknell, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, but then suffered a 6-3, 7-5 setback to Patrick Cacciatore of South Carolina. Mazzoni earned a consolation win of 6-2, 6-3 after falling in his first two matches.
Three 'Cats played in the A2 singles flight. Brooks Green won a 6-2, 6-4 consolation match vs. Stefano Puga of Gardner-Webb, while Tommy Mason scored a pair of wins on the consolation side as well, 6-3, 7-5 and 6-1, 6-4.
Yash Parikh scored a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 opening-round win vs. UNCA, but fell to Nico Grewe of UNCG (7-5, 6-2) before earning a 7-5, 6-2 consolation win.
In the B1 singles draw, Douglas MacIntosh scored a 6-3, 6-0 vs. Bryce Keim of Wofford, while Alexander Loope took a 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-2 win to start his weekend but fell to Taylor Foote of Elon 6-4, 6-0. The two then played each other in a consolation match with MacIntosh claiming a 6-4, 7-5 win.
Matthew Rose took a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 win to start vs. Nicholas Ulehla of Gardner-Webb in the C1 singles draw and then lost to UNCG 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5). He then earned a couple consolation wins with 6-3, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-4 decisions.
The duo of Fries and Parikh teamed up in the A1 doubles draw and enjoyed an opening win of 7-5 vs. UNCG and then earned a 3-0 win against a pair from UNCA after the pair of bulldogs were forced to retire.
