ASHEVILLE, N.C. —
UNC Asheville used a 15-4 run at the end of third quarter to break up a close game and Davidson was never able to climb back in it, falling on the road 69-56 Wednesday afternoon inside Kimmel Arena.
 
Davidson fell to 2-3 on the season, while the Bulldogs evened their record to 2-2.
 
The third quarter was a quarter of runs, with the Wildcats rattling off a 10-0 spurt to take its biggest lead at 39-34. But it was short-lived, the Bulldogs took back the momentum at the five-minute mark by starting its game-changing run and closing the quarter up 49-43. Jessica Wall hit back-to-back triples during the streak to break up a 41-all tie and put UNCA in front 47-41.
 
A Katie Turner three-ball in the early going of the fourth quarter, got the 'Cats within six (52-46), but the lead would grow to as much as 18 in the quarter for the Bulldogs on their way to the win.
 
UNCA had four double-digit scorers led by Sonora Dengokl's 18 points. Tiffany Wilson and Wall had 13 each, while Nadiria Evans add 12 points off the bench.
 
Turner paced the Wildcat offense with 14 points, getting six of them at the charity stripe (6-for-6). Kianna Speight had 12 points and Sarah Donovan added 10, six at the line (6-of-6). Off the bench, Justine Lyon had 10 rebounds to go with eight points.
 
Davidson went 17-of-22 from the free-throw line, but was held to 30.9 percent shooting from the floor on the day.
 
The Bulldogs hauled in a game-high 52 rebounds and finished 20-of-29 at the 15-foot line.
 
UNCA used 11 points from Dengokl and a 9-0 run to close the first quarter with a 16-8 lead.
 
Down 23-14 with just over five minutes to go in the second quarter, the Wildcats ran off a 12-5 spurt to close the quarter and put them back in the game at the half, 28-26.
 
Davidson turns around and will play host to William & Mary this Saturday, Nov. 24, at 5 p.m.
 
GAME NOTES: This was the ninth meeting between both school's women's basketball programs dating back to 1984 … Davidson holds a 5-4 lead after the setback today … the game featured seven ties and six lead changes … Speight has scored in double figures in all five games this year … Lyon's double-digit rebound game was the fourth of her career … Kyla Roland had a career-best four blocks, giving her seven in the past two games.
