DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson swimming teams return to action Saturday at home when they host VMI and UNC-Asheville at 1 p.m. in Charles A. Cannon Pool.
The Wildcat women will compete against both UNC-Asheville and VMI, while the men's meet will be a dual between Davidson and VMI.
The Wildcats have a number of swimmers who rank among the Atlantic 10 leaders this year.
Four Davidson men rank in the top 3 of the A-10 in their events, including juniors Crossan Cooper and Walter Dauksher and freshmen Thacher Scannell and Owen Corkery.
Cooper's time of 9:36.73 is second best in the 1,000-yard freestyle, and he ranks third in the 1,650 free (16:21.55), while Dauksher's 200 free time of 1:42.15 is second in the league.
Scannell ranks second in the 1,650 free (16:16.90) and third in the 500 free (4:40.52), and Corkery's 200 backstroke time of 1:53.22 is the A-10's third best so far.
For the Davidson women, junior Isabella McElrath ranks in the A-10's top 10 in three events, including fifth in the 100 fly (57.74), and sophomore Sarah Helen Shepherd's best is eighth in the 200 IM (2:10.50).
A pair of freshmen – Hope Carpenter and Hannah Gould – are among the league leaders as well. Carpenter swam the 100 back in 57.92 at last weekend's Richmond Duals, which is fourth in the A-10 this year and also put her on the program's all-time performers' list at ninth.
Gould's time of 2:25.36 is seventh best in the 200 breast.
