BRONX, N.Y. —
A fourth-quarter comeback by Davidson fell just short Wednesday at Fordham as the Wildcats dropped a 66-58 decision on the Rams' Education Day game in Atlantic 10 women's basketball inside Rose Hill Gym.

The Wildcats saw their record fall to 6-11 overall and 1-3 in league play, while the Rams moved to 13-4 overall and remained undefeated in A-10 action at 4-0. It was their sixth consecutive win overall.

Down 62-50 with 1:10 left in the final quarter, Davidson mounted one last effort to try and get back in it. Four straight free throws by Sarah Donovan and Saadia Timpton made it 62-54. Then a steal off a full-court press by the 'Cats resulted in a layup by Donovan to make it 62-56 with 53 seconds left. Again, the press worked and Timpton pocketed a steal. Justine Lyon sank two free throws to get the 'Cats within four (62-58) and 37 ticks left.

Davidson though did not score again and Fordham went 4-for-6 at the free-throw line to secure the win.

Mackenzie Latt and Lyon had 13 points apiece and combined for 13 rebounds. Freshman Sarah Donovan came off the bench to net 10 points, her third double-digit scoring game of the season.

For Fordham, Bre Cavanaugh scored 20 points, half of them coming in the second quarter, while G'mrice Davis had a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Lauren Holden scored 17 as well, hitting four three-pointers.

Cavanaugh gave the Rams the lead heading into halftime, 33-31, by converting a pair of and-one plays in the final two minutes on her way to 10 points for the quarter and Rice capped a 10-2 run to close the quarter with a last-second layup.

The Rams then opened on a 13-3 run to start the third quarter to go up double digits at 46-34. They would close the quarter up 53-42.

Davidson had maintained its lead from the first quarter through the start of the second quarter, as post players Latt (three-pointer) and Welling (jumper) made it 20-15 with back-to-back buckets. Later, a triple by Kianna Speight made it 29-23 with under three minutes left in the quarter.

The Wildcats had an impressive 21 points off of Ram turnovers and won the rebound battle, 39-34, with 14 offensive boards. They also scored 30 points in the paint and had an 8-0 advantage in fast-break points.

Fordham finished the game shooting 44.2 percent and was 7-of-17 from behind the arc, while Davidson shot 36.7 percent overall.

The Wildcats remain on the road and travel to Richmond, Va., this weekend for a 2 p.m. game Sunday against Richmond.
