Men's Swimming Has Strong Debut in 2017-18 Opener

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- A trio of veterans led the Davidson men's swim team in their 2017-18 season opener, as the Wildcats hosted defending Division II national champions Queens in Cannon Natatorium Saturday morning.
Seniors Riley League, Clay Resweber, and Taylor Willenbring paced the 'Cats, each recording two individual Top Three finishes. League won the men's 50 breaststroke (27.52) and took second in the 100 (1:00.05). Resweber also recorded a first and second, winning the 200 freestyle (1:42.35) and coming in runner-up in the 500 (4:44.77).
Willenbring finished second and third in the 50 and 100 freestyles, respectively (22.02, 48.47). Sophomores Crossan Cooper and Alex Strasser also had a successful days. Cooper won the 1000 free (9:45.87) and finished third in the 200 IM (1:57.96) and 500 free (4:45.35).
Strasser touched in at 52.48 in the 100 fly, tying with Wildcat rookie Will Tabor, making his Davidson debut. Strasser also finished second in the 50 fly (23.39).
A handful of third place finishes rounded out the day for the 'Cats. Freshman Mitchell Stanek also delivered a strong collegiate debut, clocking in at 10:03.82 in the 1000 free. Seniors Cole Riggan and Trey Harris also placed (200 free, 50 fly, respectively) with times of 1:45.02 and 23.67, and sophomore Griffen Younger took the "bronze" in the 100 fly (53.01).
The 400 medley and 200 free relays each finished in third, led by sophomore Brian Hynes, Willenbring, Strasser, and senior Ari Snyder in the medley, and Willenbring, junior Matt Bode, Snyder, and Resweber in the freestyle.
Both the men and women return to action the weekend of October 20, facing off in the Richmond Duals at the Greater Richmond Aquatic Partnership.
