
Davidson Finalizes Challenging 2017-18 Schedule

DAVIDSON, N.C. – A date with the defending National Champions, as many as 10 NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago, 18 conference games, and trip to Honolulu, Hawai'i for the Diamond Head Classic, highlight the 2017-18 Davidson men's basketball schedule, as released Wednesday afternoon.
"The makeup of this year's schedule will present significant challenges at home, on the road, and at neutral sites," said head coach Bob McKillop. "A mix of Top-20 programs, long-time rivalries, and new faces will provide exciting and highly competitive basketball for our program and for our fans."
Following a preseason tune-up with Hampden Sydney (Nov. 3), the Wildcats will open the season Nov. 10 against Charleston Southern inside Belk Arena.
On Nov. 14, Davidson will host 2017 CAA Champion UNC Wilmington, before embarking on a three-game road trip, beginning with Nevada (Nov. 21), another postseason participant from last season.
After the Thanksgiving holiday, the Wildcats will travel to Appalachian State (Nov. 25) and cross-county rival Charlotte (Nov. 28) before hosting the North Carolina Tar Heels at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte on Dec. 1.
Prior to an 11-day exam break, Davidson returns home to face Southern Conference foe VMI on Dec. 5.
For the third time in the last five years, the Wildcats will square off with Virginia, when they travel to Charlottesville for a Dec. 16 contest at John Paul Jones Arena.
Davidson will conclude the non-conference portion of its campaign with a trip to The Aloha State for the 2017 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic Dec. 22, 23 and 25. The Wildcats will play New Mexico State in the opening round at 6 p.m. (HT) / 11 p.m. (ET) on ESPNU.
Akron, Miami, Middle Tennessee, Princeton and USC will also take part in the annual event hosted by Hawai'i.
Atlantic 10 Schedule Release (9/4/17)
Davidson's 18-game Atlantic 10 slate will feature 10 nationally-televised contests, as announced by the conference office.
The Wildcats, who joined the league in 2014, will tipoff A-10 action at Richmond on December 30. It marks the third time in the last four seasons these two have opened against each other.
Four days later, Davidson will entertain Saint Louis (1/3) at John M. Belk Arena in its conference home opener.
The 'Cats, who have won a combined 32 league games and advanced to the A-10 semifinals in each of their first three years as members, will play home/home series with Fordham, George Washington, Rhode Island, Richmond and St. Bonaventure.
In addition, the Wildcats will host La Salle, Massachusetts, Saint Joseph's and Saint Louis, while also traveling to Dayton, Duquesne, George Mason and VCU.
Three of Davidson's televised games will be played on a Friday evening, including two on ESPN2 (St. Bonaventure - 1/19; at Rhode Island - 2/9).
For the second straight season, the Wildcats will wrap up regular season play against Rhode Island, this time at home, Friday, March 2 on CBS Sports Networks.
The 2018 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship will be played March 7-11, 2018 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
The A-10 is coming off a season in which six teams reached the postseason. It was the 10th year in a row and 32nd time overall, the A-10 earned at least three bids into the NCAA Tournament and the 12th straight year the Atlantic 10 had a team advance to the Round of 32.
